Marvel published 34 comics and 2 magazines for a total of 36 issues cover dated January 1980. These issues would have been on the newsstands in October 1979 based on the convention of three-month advance cover dating in order to avoid the appearance of out-dated periodicals. There were lots of gems published by Marvel this month, but Uncanny X-Men #129 particularly stands out as the beginning of what would become known as the Dark Phoenix Saga as well as the first appearances of Kitty Pryde and the Hellfire Club’s White Queen Emma Frost. The 200th issue of Amazing Spider-Man is another important Marvel milestone issue published in January 1980.
